BIO

Dan E. Dickinson is a certified public accountant (inactive) in private practice in Anchorage. He also held the certified management accountant designation.

A major milestone in his professional life was his involvement in the 2006 and 2007 production tax reforms in Alaska. He was able to see some ideas that he had been advocating for years finally make it into law, (if not exactly in the form he had been advocating).  He worked for the Murkowski administration during both the regular and special legislative sessions that finally culminated in the passage of the 2006 reforms. From 2007 through 2010 -- including both the special session in which the 2007 reforms were passed and the 2010 session which saw the passage of the Cook Inlet Recovery Act - he consulted with the Legislature on oil and gas tax issues.

For much of 2007 he worked with the Municipality of Anchorage’s Property Tax Relief Task Force. He also served on the Municipality’s Budget Advisory Commission from 2007 through 2009.

From 1999 through 2006 he served in the Alaska Department of Revenue. Dan was first appointed director of Oil and Gas Audit and then director of tax by Governor Knowles. He continued as director of tax in the Murkowski administration, finally moving on to focus on the state effort to monetize North Slope gas through a Stranded Gas Development Act contract.  That effort did not meet with success.

In the eighties and nineties he was involved as a consultant and expert witness in a number of oil and gas royalty and tax cases both outside and here in Alaska.   A 40+ year resident of Anchorage, Dan was a presenter at the Conference of Alaskans convened by Gov. Murkowski in Fairbanks in 2004.  He has served on the boards of several not-for profits as treasurer.  He holds a BA in lunar geology from Brown University.
